These brightly coloured cottages line the main street in the historic County Clare village of Labasheeda along Ireland's Shannon Estuary.
Once a thriving trading port, the village had 606 residents in 1841 and now is home to 328 people. It's located between Kilrush and Ennis along a route now called the Shannon Estuary Way.
Labasheeda, which means "Bed of Silk," is undergoing somewhat of a rural revival thanks to a number of local individuals and groups. In addition to the usual pubs and a post office, it now has a popular glamping site called, appropriately, Beds of Silk Holiday Retreat, and a small coffee and art shop called Charm Bee Studio.
Nearby is Kilkerrin Battery, one of several forts built by the British between 1811 and 1814 to repel an expected invasion by Napoleon. The invasion didn't happen, but the fort remains and is being developed as a heritage site.
